Meyers takes 3rd at Freestyle States

Max Meyers of Watchung Hills took a 3rd as a freshman at the Freestyle states this past weekend.  This is Max's first year ever doing international styles and has worked hard on developing the skills required to compete at the HS level and beyond.  Keep up the hard work Max!

"Mean" Gene Pins down Force Room

Picture
"Mean" Gene Mills blew up the Force room with an awesome clinic for everyone this past weekend.  Tons of Technique, awesome motivation for becoming the best, and one helluva fun time ;)  A big thanks to Gene for making the long trip up from Nationals this past weekend to spend extra time on the mat with all of us!  Great Job everyone!

The Time is Now!!!

Picture
You lost, your season ended and you're sitting on the couch taking that nice rest because you think you deserve it... Think Again!!!  Those that want to be the best are not sitting down, they're using the motivation of their State, Region and District losses to catapult them past the guys who are going to take that nice restful break after AC is done.
If you're serious about getting on top of that state podium, there's no rest for the wicked, there's only hard work and mental toughness to be earned.  The time to pay the price for being the best starts "NOW!"  When the losses are fresh like open wounds and every second of sitting teary eyed under the bleachers or those dark, dank locker rooms stings clear in your mind…  Do not be the person who thinks they deserve a break because you didn't eat your favorite food for months, or you woke up early a few times to lift… Be the Gladiator that lives, eats and breathes it, so that you can take control of your season's outcome and make up ground on your opponents while they enjoyed the bright lights this year.

Riggio wins state title and Force places 7 in Union States

Picture
This weekend at Union Force came away with 7 placers and Frankie Riggio won the state title at 70lbs for his age group.  Frankie's been training hard for 3yrs at Force and has shown an un-waivering work ethic, dedication, and commitment to the program.  Adhering to everything I preach about match preparation, he even brought his own pillow to nap on and get mentally focused!!!  This week he dominated his way into the finals winning 4 matches in a row; his first by pin, second 13-1, third 6-1, and final 4-3.  Great job Frankie, way to stay the course and wrestle with the mindset of a Champion!
Wrestling tough all weekend for Force:  Max Meyers 2nd 103, Joe Deehan 7th, Will Howard 7th 170lbs, Matt Casiero 3rd 90lbs, Nick Riggio 6th 70lbs, Nico Collucci 3rd at Hwt, and Joe Delia 7th at Hwt.  Great job by all of you that competed over these past weeks, I'm proud of all your hard work and it's starting to pay-off.  In only two years of having a youth program at Force it is truly a delight to see the future of the program having success on all levels!  It is a true pleasure watching everyone compete and I'm proud to be in your corner.

Now time for Freestyle and Greco!  Back to work and see you all on the mat!!!

Force Places 5 in Kids Int/Jr States

Picture
This past weekend our kids competed down in good o'l Moorestown and showed in only a couple years what Force can do as it builds it's youth program to reach new heights!  Drew Chilson 4th, Nick Fierro 5th, Aiden Monteverdi 7th, Sean Connelly 8th, and Dylan Saggio 8th.  All our kids wrestled their hearts out and I'm proud of each and every one of you... Remember that the time for training begins NOW, so don't waste that time sitting down, get back in the room while the motivation is burning and start training to be the champion all year long!  Great Job guys!

Congrats to Anthony Angelone and Katon Washington!

Picture

7yrs ago Anthony Angelone stepped into the Force room a lofty 152lber in middle school.  Naturally talented with high expectations and pressures all around, it's been an amazing journey watching this young man grow into the person he is now.  He made it down to AC this year and showed why he was a state contender.  A dark horse throughout the year, when I saw his smile down in AC I knew he had arrived and was ready to compete with the best, and he did.  Anthony dropped a close one to Don Bosco 9-6 in the quarters, then wrestled all the way back to fight for 3rd place.  He squared off against Roy Lucas of S. Hammonton and it was action packed all the way.  Getting down a bit early and caught on some nice shot attempts Angelone went for a back-arch lat drop and got caught but never quit.  He battled back and lost 9-5 but put on an outstanding performance!  I thank those that got this man back on the mat this past year, both friends, family and coaches you all had a huge part and it's been a pleasure to be apart of his journey through life and wrestling!
After winning both Districts and Regions back to back, Washington earned his trip to AC and showed he deserves to stand with the best.  Katon won two matches before dropping his quarterfinal bout to the eventual runner-up.  He wrestled back and had a few tough calls but never quit.  Katon finished up 8th on the day, although it wasn't where he wanted he never quit and wrestled from his heart.  His district/region counterpart Jason Esteves finished 3rd, just to give everyone a glimpse at the depth of the 132lb weight class, it was an awesome battle all year!  A great performance from Katon!  We at Force are proud to be a part of your development and hope to see you in the room as you continue forward in your wrestling career!

Washington earns first Region 4 Title, defends rivalry with Esteves

Picture
Montclair's Katon Washington was a mystery last year but in two short weeks has made his mark by earning his first District 14 honors and the Outstanding Wrestler award by defeating rival Jason Esteves of Livingston. Both Esteves and Washington wrestled an extremely tactical match, with 3 overtimes to decide the outcome.  This past Saturday night Katon left nothing to chance as he put on a much more dominant performance against Esteve's winning 5-1 to earn his first Region 4 championship and a trip to battle with the best in Atlantic City!  Great job Katon and a big shout-out for the work by Coach Freedman and the Montclair staff!  Big things happening in Essex county!

Force Wrestlers have strong showing at SEC counties

Picture
Force wrestlers competed at the SEC county championships this sunday and had a great showing!  Congrats to Champions Dylan Saggio(70lbs) Maguire Pecci(80lbs) Nick Fierro(85lbs).  Frankie Riggio took a 2nd at 65lbs, Sam Zamloot, Mark Riggio and Nick Riggio all took a 3rd.  Way to represent guys, I'm very proud of all  your hard work this season!

Morrison earns Star Ledger wrestler of the week!

Picture
It's been 5 years home grown throughout the Force room and Ryne Morrison in his senior year is taking his game to new heights.  With a fresh perspective and new attitude, Morrison recently rebounded from his loss in the County finals to win his dual meet against Mike Kalimitzis of Westfield 12-3 and win the match for Gov. Livingston.  Ryne won big again in GL's win over Vorhees the other night when he major decisioned his opponent 9-1 and capped the match for the Highlanders.  Morrison has earned Star Ledger's wrestler of the week and you can see the interview here>>>
As a coach and mentor in the sport I'm always amazed when the students start to strive for their potential cause you never know when it's going to click!  I remember Ryne as a small, barely 90lb kid who used to flip-flop around on the mats back in the day and now he's finally coming into his own.  We've gone through many trials and tribulations both in the room and off the mat, now it's all coming to fruition and the hard work, sweat, blood and tears are paying great dividends.  You make all the Force wrestlers proud and show the youth why they shouldn't quit and keep working towards their goals!
Keep up the great work, you have unlimited potential!

Levin still unbeaten as Force wrestlers hit Essex County

Picture
Simon Levin of Millburn remains undefeated at 17-0 as he rolled through the Essex County tournament with 4 pins, including one in the finals.  Levin nearly tech-falled every opponent before pinning them on his way to the title at 160lbs.  Congrats Simon!
2nd Place - Anthony Angelone, Kevin Matlon, Katon Washington
3rd Place - Dylan Pollack, 4th Place - Pat Gerish

Hoy takes Union County Title with Flare

Picture
Ryan Hoy wins Union Counties for Gov. Livingston this past week.  Coming from a 5-2 deficit, Hoy got his 2on1 and used a nasty Foot-sweep throw to put his opponent to his back for 5 points. Hoy was reversed to tie up the score but didn't quit wrestling and in the last minute of the 3rd period scrambled from bottom and caught a peterson for a 5pt reversal and then proceeded to PIN for the WIN!  Congrats Ryan!
2nd Place - Ryne Morrison, 4/5th Place - Ryan Dobbs

State Tournament Training

Picture
As High School, middle school and travel league matches wind down this coming week, Force kicks training into overdrive for all its wrestlers!  The next coming month is our time to peak for competition and get prepared to battle the best in the State.  High Schoolers you have 3 weeks or less to get into the best state of mind and physical condition you can be... Youth has a little over a month to prepare! Time is ticking!
Make sure to bring in your videos for analysis and work on fixing the little things.

"Remember that although you may have had a rough season, things didn't work out the way you may have planned that wrestling is a journey and not a destination.  You can completely change your game in 1 week or a month to come back and win for the State Title.  Believe in yourself, Believe in your work ethic and winning will take care of itself!"

Good luck and Hope to see you all in the room!

Ken Chertow visits the Force Room

Picture
Although the roads were wet, the rain was pouring down, we wrestlers made it to the mat for a great night of intense drilling and great technique.  Every time we do a clinic it's nice to sit back and learn from some of the best and coach Chertow was no exception, he impressed everyone with not only technique but making wrestling fun, exciting, and interesting for each individual who participated...even those that were watching from the sidelines couldn't stop staring.  As a coach myself, I'm always taking notes and I will definitely be incorporating quite a bit of what I saw, into our workouts here at Force.  Ken is truly a champion of the sport who has been able to spread the wrestling bug around the nation with great enthusiasm and spirit.  It was an honor to have him in the room and coaching at Force.  I'd also like to give a great shout-out to his assistant Steve Sawall who did an awesome job with helping the kids and demonstrating technique!  Thank you guys for a great night!
